Tribute to Professor Jyoti Prakash Tamang

“I am very sad to report to you the demise of Professor Jyoti Prakash Tamang. He passed away suddenly on April 29th. He used to send me a salutatory WhatsApp message every day since April 2023. After some time without any news, I went to the Internet and found this shocking notice. In addition to his enormous contribution to academia at Sikkim University and to the microbiology of many ethnic fermented foods, Jyoti has made a deep imprint on many of us due to his clever mind, tireless smile, and sincere friendship. We at the WP3-E6 project of the PIMENTO Cost Action remain orphaned by the loss of our co-leader, collaborator, and friend. My sincere condolences to the bereaved Jyoti´s family and all of you who met him and appreciated his proactive leadership and his brilliant contributions. May his soul rest in peace!”

“So, so sad news. I just checked and wasn’t it that we had the meeting with Jyoti on 28th of April? I still can’t believe that this happened. He was always so friendly and very knowledgeable. He actually helped me a lot in my own S4 group work as well with his tremendous knowhow about ethnic fermented foods.
Dear´Jyoti, Rest in Peace.”
